Hi, I'm Craig and I designed Qwhizz as a fun website for quizzers. Qwhizz isn't my first creation in the quizzing world, I'm also the creator of Alexa's Quick-fire Quiz; a skill that has tested the knowledge of hundreds of thousands of quiz fans around the world, and author of "The General Knowledge Quiz Book" with a range of easy, medium and difficult questions. Over the years of doing this I've researched and written many thousands of questions, so I like to think I know a little about what makes a good quiz!
With Qwhizz I wanted to focus on what I believe are the two fundamental aspects of building solid trivia knowledge: real world quizzing practice and focused learning. I didn't just want to create a website of quizzes, I wanted to make it possible for you to actually retain the information, so you'll see many of the quizzes offer the ability to "study".
If you're a hardcore quizzer, you'll no doubt be aware of the importance of studying. But there's so much information to learn, it can be tricky to keep track of your progress, so you'll often find yourself needing to relearn the information you thought you already knew.
With Qwhizz studying involves reviewing flash cards over time. Behind the scenes it's an implementation of spaced-repetition using the leitner system, which involves you reviewing the information you don't know more frequently, and the information you know well less frequently. In doing this Qwhizz allows you to retain information by placing it in your long-term memory. You'll then be able to test your knowledge directly on the quizzes built using that exact information. Cool eh?
While its great to be able to effectively learn the information on this site, and fun to play the quizzes, I realise that it's not possible for me to create quizzes on every single topic you might want to learn. That's where creating your own quizzes comes in. Qwhizz allows you to easily create quizzes and flashcards for yourself, on any topic you like, making Qwhizz an effective learning tool for students and trivia enthusiasts alike. In fact, everything you see on Qwhizz - the tower games, clickable maps, minefields, match the pairs, the flashcards, the study sessions - are all created using the exact same tools you will find when you sign up.
One thing I'm quite excited about with Qwhizz is the AI tooling. AI has a bit of a bad reputation at the moment, but I believe its superpowers can also be harnessed for good. The quizzes here aren't AI generated, but AI tools are frequently used to assist in building them.
For example, creating a quiz on US State Capitals would start by me quickly generating a list of 50 US states and their capitals, which means I don't have to manually type them all out. Sometimes I get AI to reword a question that sounds clunky, or have AI generate an answer or fact check a question. You can also generate good alternate answers for multiple-choice quizzes and decoys for minefields and yes, if you want to, you can get the AI to generate questions on your topic if you're looking to test yourself or don't know the material too well (although AI generated questions can sometimes be a little generic).
It would be remiss of me not to mention that the use of the AI tooling requires credits, which can be purchased, it's the only part of this site that isn't free, but there's absolutely no need to use it. If you're happy to type out the 50 US states, you can still do that, if you want to create multiple choice answers manually you're more than welcome. The AI tooling is meant to assist you, and I have no intention of locking quiz creation features behind a paywall!
That's it. That's Qwhizz. I think it's pretty cool. I hope you do too. Happy Quizzing!
